Rootphi has been developing a series of structures that can pack completely flat, need no tools for assembly and utilize no fasteners.  These structures achieve rigidity through gravity and simple architectural connections designed by Doug Patt.   From these structures RootPhi further developed an emergency shelter kit.  The kit is developed is a response to the need for low cost, temporary shelter that’s easily shipped and assembled. Based upon the highly visible events of the last few years including worldwide hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and tsunamis, the shelter kit can provide shelter for the displaced of such disasters.  This class of displacement does not even touch on the volume of individuals displaced through war and genocide.  The shelter kit is designed for temperate climates to provide relief from the elements. The shelter, unlike tents or metal shacks, can be anchored off the earth to provide relief from ground elements.  It is rigid and strong unlike a site-constructed fabric structure.  Two people can assemble it without any tools at a rapid pace and it has a relatively long lifespan depending upon the construction material.
